More Japanese “EcoCars” in China

Many Japanese automobile makers are planning to introduce more eco-friendly cars, such as hybrid and electric vehicles, that emit less CO2 in China, projecting that the demand will increase as they, too, will combat global warming while reducing energy consumption.

China has been one of the largest automobile market, however, the Japanese auto makers are struggling to expand their eco-car sales due to the higher cost. They are making a few changes.

Toyota has resumed its Prius factory in China last month (Dec 2011), and starts its sales this year. Honda has a plan to manufacture their electric cars in China this year. Nissan also plans to introduce a new brand of electric cars especially for the Chinese market.

All the Japanese auto makers hope to expand their sales shares in China, using their advantageous high-tech eco-friendly cars to compete with makers from the U.S. and Europe.
