Tokyo: Izakaya, pub restaurant, opened for 3.11 recovery

An established Akita-city-based chain izakaya (pub restaurant where they serve tapas like small dishes but with Japanese food) has opened their second “Recovery Support Pub,” in Minato ward, Tokyo. They will donate the total amount of profit to support the Tohoku recovery from the 3.11 disaster.

The izakaya was opened inside of the building across from the JR Shinbashi station on January 17. They serve 96 kinds of microbrew sake from Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima, as well as the local cuisine of Tohoku. The whole profit will be distributed to three prefectures. As soon as they opened the door at 5p.m. on the first day, many customers came and enjoyed the food and drinks with colleagues after work. One of the customers said, “It’s a great idea that we can eat and drink to contribute to the recovery. We’re sending our cheers to the people in Tohoku!”

The first one of this izakaya was opened in Sendai city in September. They aim to donate 1 million yen per month. The izakaya rep, Mr. Akihiko Mogami, commented, “I hope many people who desire to help the Tohoku will come to dine. We’ll do our best, so that we can donate as much as we can.”
